Read What Mommies Are Saying About Last Year's Event

I am always so flattered when I hear someone say "I heard about this event last year but couldn't make it, this year I am making sure I attend!" The passion I have for this event is a large part of why I do it but it all comes down to seeing so many women and babies/children come together and enjoy themselves. Thank you for sharing these special memories with so many people.

I remember why I came to the first annual BOOB event. I needed to see what I wanted. I wanted to be confident and at ease breast feeding ANYWHERE/ANYTIME. When my daughter was born I knew I wanted to breast feed. I went to my local La Leche meetings and gained great knowledge and started to feel at ease feeding in front of other mom’s and family members. I came to the BOOB event because I knew that seeing other mothers feeding comfortably in public would help me to feel more comfortable. It was a great event. I went alone with my daughter but left having chatted with a number of Ottawa Mom’s. We were there for a common cause. To support each other (and our children). My daughter is now almost a year old. Thanks to events like this and La Leche I can say that I breast feed ANYWHERE/ ANYTIME with ease and confidence. It feels so good to feel comfortable with the act of breast feeding. My comfort has led to a great breast feeding relationship with my daughter. Thanks Ottawa Mom’s and thanks Shawna for organizing this annual event.

I loved being a part of such a great organized event to support breastfeeding. Often being in the common public we can feel slightly ostracized for feeding our babies, feeling like everyone is looking, judging. Being surrounded by so many lovely mommas and their babies just doing what is natural really boosts the confidence a mom needs, being reminded that we can feed our precious bundles whenever wherever they need it. I attended when my son was just less than 2 months; we have never covered up a public meal since. I’ve had a small share of negative experiences, but very happy to have encountered more positive support from my community then negative. There is a new view on breastfeeding, and it’s because of the strength we mom’s possess to fight and hold true to our opinion that breast is best. Come, sit, enjoy, you won’t be disappointed.

Public Breastfeeding Awareness starts at a young age - this is why I felt that it was important to bring my two older children along to the BOOB event. This kind of event gives mothers the opportunity to gain the confidence needed to be confortable nursing in public, but even more important, shows the community/society that breastfeeding in public is as normal as having a picnic at the park. If my 4 and 6 year olds can have a snack at the park, so can my baby! The first BOOB event was a huge success - lots of mothers with their babies, lots of conversations, and although I came "alone" with my children, we didn't feel alone at all! I met a few mothers I have seen around the block. Such a nice atmosphere and I felt just at home and so did my children! Lots of thought and energy has been put into this event so that every mother can feel at home and confortable to nurse their baby/child in a respectful atmosphere.
